I'm anything but optimistic. There were several problems with Scars in the past, and for lack of a better word, some powerplay. How can we be sure there won't be more problems, now that he's even more powerful?

I'm not too sure about the powerplay claims, but Scars seems very powerful in this incarnation. Vampires are creatures of incredible strength by nature, which is why I'm not sure why he's only at five bars of strength, unless he's been denying himself his feeding. I'm also noticing his mastery of swordsmanship, and amazing talent with the vampiric gaze. I think Scars is better suited as a special character, especially with his ambition of starting a clan of vampires. Feel free to talk to me about this, but I'm very skeptical of accepting him in his current state.

It is my understanding that the point of the time skip, among other things, is to give everyone a fresh start and a clean slate. This is a character from the previous era, brought to this point by his immortality as a vampire. He is head and shoulders above the rest, and kind of defeats the purpose of the time skip.

That aside, I agree with Xeloras. If you want to have this guy start a vampire clan that's all well and good, but I'm not sure what sort of RP he could be doing among the common folk of Surna, being a head vampire and all. He's more like a final boss for a storyline. You're welcome to debate this point, but right now I'm leaning towards deny.

I'm fine with him being a special character, if you all prefer. And to Xeloras, the main reason that his strength is so low is because I was getting really lazy and left most of the values the way they were.

I'm torn on this. While he doesn't appear immediately as special character material, his ambitions (especially if they come to fruition) would place him in a very powerful role. He's also become stronger (as one might expect) in the last 200 years, but he doesn't read to me as a plot all on his own. I do have ideas for his use in conjunction with one of my characters, so he and other 'dark' characters would have plenty to do (if they go along with it). If Thoro has no desire or idea for a sub-plot or activities based around his actions, then he doesn't exactly classify as a Special Character. Maybe if he reduces a few skills he can fall back into a normal character role?

Reduced Vampiric Gaze by 1 point, it's now 7 instead of 8 out of ten.

EDIT: Took out his Blood Canteen, given the new vampire lore it wouldn't work.
Change his Stitched Armor into Noble Armor, as his stiched armor would become unusable over time, and he would have likely gotten new armor from his family during the wars.

EDIT2: Heavily modified his biography to include some imprisonment, to help explain his lower than potentially possible skills.

EDIT3: Removed his Iron Dagger and Lead Coated Steel Shortsword.

Skill bars do not make or break a character's validity. I'm sorry about using the term 'powerplay', that was harsh, but I've never liked how Mystis was roleplayed. For the most part, he got away with anything he wanted, and when he was in danger (chained up in the guardhouse and exposed to the sun for most of the day everyday, and scheduled for execution) he got off free with nothing but purely aesthetic scars to show for it.

I feel 'Scars' never worked as a non-special player character, and I have severe doubts he'll work now, so I'm rolling with a deny, sorry.

Imo, he'd have to be a special character. He's just too proficient with everything in general.

Honestly, after re-reading this page a couple times (and it is a lovely page), I'ma have to throw this a hesitant denial as someone you could just casually play.

Also like Psyche said, past memories are hard to shake.

A vampire this old pretty much has to be powerful or it just doesn't make sense. That's the problem I have with this character. You can reduce his skills and give him crappy equipment, but then you've dug yourself into a hole trying to answer the question of why he's so set back when he's had 200 years to grow? You'd be better off beefing him up and saving him for a plot, or something.

That's the problem with vampires. I'm not going to nag you by saying you knew this was going to happen, but this is why I hate vampires in RP; characters they don't suffer from the drawbacks that come with being one until the player is pretty much, like Munroe said, dug themselves into a hole.

I've already assured you that Pat and I would make as much of an effort as we could to fit him into plot events and push his interests into a sphere of quests with your cooperation. He would get use. I'm sorry if you don't think that's enough, but Munroe, Krug, and Psyche have made some very good points. I'm going to currently stand on denying this as a personal character.

Would it be at all possible that with Shar's defeat the Vampires of Aeria lost a lot of their power and have only been able to get back to where they were after all this time?

According to the new lore Shar only has a direct hand in creating the vampires and blooding blessed vampires. Since their creation, they've largely become something of a rogue species, growing on their own with their own ambitions, few actually worshiping Shar. While there are grievous (very much so) consequences for any vampire that gets caught by a follower of shar's, their power isn't linked to her well being.

Furthermore, the new lore actually focuses on removing most of their 'super strong and fast tank' status and focusing on their nature as creatures of shadow, giving them concealing and manipulative skills, while retaining their speed and agility. Vampires are now supposed to be clever, deceitful creatures. For example, the Vampiric strength bonus has been entirely removed and replaced by a general inability to become weary via physical activity. While they're still very dangerous, the focus is now supposed to be on clever, fast, deceitful, manipulative Vampires.

I'm trying to make this fair to people who are just starting from scratch. I feel like he's down as low as a vampire this old can get.

I don't feel like he should be a special character simply because of his ambitions, because he had similar ambitions in old-olden and it worked fine. I can't control the fact that he's 200 years and I didn't make him a vampire while anticipating some sort've time skip.

All of you are likely gonna make some version of your old characters, a great great great great great grandson of your old character or something. Scars can't have children because of his vampirism, therefore, I just brought Scars over. I just want to RP Scars. If you could all please, explain to me very clearly, and precisely what the hell your problem is with Scars.

I will not rest until he is accepted and I will try my hardest to get it done, I just need to be told what I need to fix.

Before anyone throws this into the trash bin, I'd like to hear what exactly is the problem with Scars. I've never played with him, so I frankly have no idea what he may or may have not been. I can understand Thoro's side of the argument since I stand at a similiar situation with him.

I also don't see why the use of special characters would be so restricted*.
